Description
SAGITTARIUS means "archer" or "archer's bow." In Greek mythology, Sagittarius is associated with the centaur Chiron, a wise and skilled healer who was accidentally wounded by a poisoned arrow. Since could not die due to his immortality, he agonized all the time. To end his suffering, Chiron offered himself as a sacrifice and was placed among the stars as the constellation Sagittarius. The brightest star in Sagittarius is Kaus Australis and Ptolemy, the famous Greek astronomer, was the first person to catalogue it in the 2nd Century.
