Description
CAPRICORNUS means “horned goat” in Latin. In mythology, it is associated with the story of Pan, the Greek god of the wild and shepherds. Pan was pursued by the monster Typhon and sought refuge in the Nile River. As he submerged, his lower half transformed into that of a fish, while his upper half remained that of a goat, creating the hybrid creature represented by Capricornus. The brightest star in Capricornus is Deneb Algedi and the constellation was first catalogued in the 2nd Century by Greek astronomer Ptolemy.
